Children under 2
Upstairs’ rooms – Crawlers, Walkers and Joggers
A child’s first years are critical for the development of the brain and for language development.
From birth, babies are busy, active learners, immediately investigating the sights, sounds, and feel of the world.
Young babies and tots explore the world with their senses when developing motor skills. Long before they understand a concept like “under” or “far” with their minds, their bodies are learning to navigate the up and down, over and under of the physical world: their perceptions are sorting out shapes, sizes and colours.
Communication is key through facial expressions, singing, rhymes and play. At Plantos, we provide a safe world, rich with opportunities to actively explore for all children. Books are used everywhere!
Throughout the nursery, there are opportunities for sensory play with weekly music and yoga sessions. We also focus on the wellbeing of all children by introducing mindful activities.
Children over 2
Downstairs’ rooms – Runners and Sprinters
At this age, children are exploring their powers to communicate, move purposely, assert their independence and individuality, and control their important bodily functions.
Plantos Nursery offers a relaxed environment with plenty of learning opportunities and challenges to prepare children for full-time school. The team understand the frequent changes in moods, interests, and capabilities and provide calm, consistent care and supportive teaching.
At this stage, children need confidence and the skills and desire to think for themselves and to solve problems. Children are given opportunities to work with others, communicate, and gain an increasing understanding of the world and how it works.
Outdoor focussed activities continue for the older children following the ethos of a Forest School in our large outdoor areas and especially in the new Cwtsh room which is specifically for free-flow play and learning.
Download Our App
We have introduced an interactive App which allows parents a safe network to access information about their child’s day at a time that suits them. Our staff upload videos and photos and parents can then log on and view their child’s activity.
At the same time, parents can contribute to their child’s learning journey and make notes for their key-workers, helping to build relationships between families and the nursery.
We’ve had great feedback from our parents who’ve said they love to be able to get a full live insight into their child’s day at the touch of a button.
CURRICULUM
“Birth to Three Matters
Plantos follows the Birth to Three Matters framework for all children under three years of age.”
The Curriculum in Wales
Plantos follows the ‘New Curriculum in Wales” which is the statutory curriculum for all 3 to 16 year-olds in Wales.
We are embedding the four purposes of the New Curriculum for Wales into our learning and development for all of the older children in our care.
